About the Role:

Join Alcoa as our AI & Generative AI Product Lead, reporting to the Director Global Operations Insight, Data & EHS. You will spearhead the integration of Generative AI into Alcoa Operations, supporting our AI Strategy and Governance to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.

We are looking for a true technical professional to define, articulate and lead a strategic vision for Generative AI solutions to support Alcoa’s operational goals. Through collaboration with ITAS Strategy, Operations portfolio managers, and relevant business stakeholders we hope to identify opportunities for Generative AI adoption in our business to drive step change improvements.

Some of the key accountability and exposures in this role are to:

  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and contract establishment with external Generative AI vendors/partners, serving as the technical interface for project execution.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, both internal and external, in the development and deployment of Generative AI solutions across Alcoa’s global operations.
  • Establish life cycle management processes to ensure ongoing value delivery from deployed Generative AI solutions.
  • Develop and prioritise a roadmap for the Generative AI product line, overseeing the backlog of projects, fixes, and enhancements.
  • Communicate complex AI concepts and value propositions effectively to non-technical stakeholders, raising AI maturity across Alcoa.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Generative AI solutions in Operations, staying current with AI advancements and trends.

Flexibility for virtual meeting attendance outside normal business hours and occasional travel for face-to-face meetings with colleagues and stakeholders in different geographical regions is required.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Bachelor of Mathematics, Software Engineering, Data Science, or other related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Generative AI concepts and various Generative AI models, e.g., Transformers, Diffusion, model fine-tuning, GAN’s (Generative Adversarial Networks), VAEs’ (Variational Autoenconders),
  • Demonstrated experience with deep learning and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
  • Proven experience in leading AI initiatives, including vendor/partner management and cross-functional team leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to drive change management and foster adoption of AI solutions within operational environments.
  • Analytical mindset with the capability to manage detailed analytical tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of AI life cycle management and experience in developing AI-driven business strategies.
