Data Analytics and AI Architect

The Data Analytics & AI Architect is responsible for designing, creating and managing Southern Water’s Data architectures including information architecture, data architecture and platform architecture, across hybrid cloud and on-premise environments.

The role is essential in ensuring the Data function and partners can deliver value to Southern Water through scalable, sustainable, robust, secure and cost-effective foundations, solutions and platform designs.

The Architect works within the Data and Analytics team and is fully aligned to the D & A team’s program, project and product priorities, while working closely with the Strategy and Architecture function following their guardrails and principles.

Responsibilities Will Include:

Strategy:

  • Help create, interpret and deliver impactful strategic plans enabling delivery of data and analytics capabilities in support of Southern Water initiatives and roadmaps
  • Define and implement the long-term technology strategy and innovation roadmap across analytics, data engineering and data platforms
  • Manage and work with senior stakeholders within Southern Water, its partners and external stakeholders to build strong alignment with long term strategic roadmap

Data and Information Architecture:

  • Working with Enterprise Architects to define the logical enterprise data model for Southern Water
  • Supporting Southern Water Data Governance teams to identify and map data flows, data quality
  • Working with the Applications teams to identify and map master data sources for Southern Water
  • Working with Engineering and Platform teams to design the information architecture and its implementation into the Microsoft Azure Databricks platforms

Designing the solution roadmap and infrastructure environments:

  • Leading technical teams as appropriate in data delivery implementation and support
  • Liaising with 3rd party product providers to understand future enhancements, product roadmaps, new developments and communicate as required to business, user, and IT Stakeholders
  • Reviewing proposals to enhance or modify the configuration or functionality of applications, databases, firewalls, servers, and other critical elements of the IT estate with respect to Data and Analytics team requirements

About You:

  • Excellent ability to interact with stakeholders and turn ideas into deliverable solutions
  • Experience in leading projects relating to system integration, data migration, data warehousing, and migration to cloud-based data platforms.
  • Able to drive technical workshops with technical and business clients to derive value added services and implementations.
  • General knowledge of cloud native computing, public hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and/or Design patterns
  • Established and recent experience as a Data Architect/ Solutions Architect within the Data Environment
  • Architecture, designer, developer, or data engineering background.
  • Working knowledge of data lakes, data meshes, data platforms, data streaming solutions.
  • Architectural approach of how to design data driven IT systems: DevOps and DataOps
  • Experience of end-to-end data solution architecture/design methods and patterns for example design in areas such as data sourcing, data warehousing, data lakes, ELT/ELT, streaming, data delivery, data visualisation
  • Experience of API design and consumption (Restful, SOAP, RPC)
  • Experience in database technologies (e.g., Oracle, DB2, SQL Server)
  • Strong experience of data modelling techniques in Relational, Document, KVP, Graph, and BigData platforms servicing OLTP, OLAP and mixed model architectures
  • Strong stakeholder management ethos, recognising the importance of our internal, external and regulatory needs and business value at stake in delivering services, thereby enhancing the perception of the organisation
  • Solution driven with a strong analytical mindset, combined with creative skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiastic, driven, and proactive, who takes ownership; accountable and responsible

Package:

This role will be full time Monday to Friday 37 hours a week.

Southern Water operate a hybrid approach to working between our Durrington office and home (2 days in the office).
