Governance Manager – Data & AI

With the recent introduction of Artificial Intelligence to P&N Group, the primary function of this role is to Champion, Deliver and maintain Data and AI Governance for the group.

The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining data standards, creates and maintains a framework for AI ethics and responsible use, builds governance knowledge and literacy, and helps guide enterprise best practice around data, and AI model/tool selection and management.

The role works closely with other members of the Data and AI Community to champion and grow governance capabilities for the PNL Group.

Working as part of an inclusive and collaborative team your key responsibilities will include:

  • The role supports the development of Data Management practices, process and role guides based on the framework principles to drive business adoption of data management concepts and usage and understanding of data management tooling across the organisation
  • Define and implement AI governance mechanisms including to document and maintain our AI Policy, AI Standards and AI Ethics
  • Partner with Cyber Security, Infrastructure and Data engineering functions to ensure AI usage and implementation is carefully considered through an AI Governance lens
  • Maintain prioritisation and AI Model management framework for all AI and ML related tools and use cases
  • Mentors a team of Data Stewards to champion and build a data aware culture across the organisation. Support coaching and development of the Data Stewardship community across the group to promote growth of data governance capabilities
  • Development and maintenance of policies and procedures of the department to ensure the integrity of data artefacts and to support effective production and understanding of data
  • Ensure continued evolution and maturity of key Data Management processes including to automate data quality monitoring, expansion of data catalogue, and drive business adoption of data management tools
  • Educate the wider business on the use of data, promoting a data driven culture. Through partnering with others, the role is responsible for uplifting data literacy for the organisation and promoting data-driven decisioning and analytics
  • Drive internal awareness and ensure business units are aware of any emerging AI/ML risks, including to support risk control measures through the execution of an effective communication and implementation plan
  • Compliance with organisational policy and procedures, complete risk training requirements for role, escalation of potential risk and compliance events. The role also champions Data Privacy awareness, AI ethics management, AI/ML model governance, transparency, bias mitigation, and APRA CPS234/CPG235 compliance

What will you bring?

  • Excellent knowledge of Australian Information Management and Security and Privacy legislation and industry best practices
  • Previous exposure to AI tools, specifically an understanding of AI risks and controls, AI ethics governance, Model transparency and explainability, and prior experience with managing AI model validation and governance operations
  • Ability to design and deliver data management reporting, including presentation to senior management and executive
  • Ability to develop effective and trusted relationships with all stakeholders
  • Experience with cloud Data Governance and Catalog tools and Data Quality Tooling
  • A good communicator able to effectively collaborate, deliver information and determine the appropriate tone and level of detail for the requirement including ability to deliver excellent presentations and training programs
  • Good time management, able to work independently and take full ownership for responsibilities and issues identified
  • Demonstrated ability influence adoption of governance methodologies, foster collaboration, and deliver impactful results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • SQL, Python and technical Data Governance experience with lineage mapping, data quality rules, CDE tagging etc an advantage
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Analytics, Data Science, Data Management, Risk Management degree desirable
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) preferred but not essential
