Summary:
The Wireless Research group within InterDigital’s Research and Innovation (R&I) organization is responsible for leading InterDigital’s North American next generation wireless research projects. Our charter is to identify future technology needs, develop and learn from proof-of-concept prototypes, and innovate around a system focus. Today this team is at the leading edge of 6G research.
InterDigital is seeking a highly motivated wireless engineering intern to work within our technology research and development team to help design, simulate, and prototype 6G technologies, in which intelligent networks self-optimize to deliver services to users and intelligent devices that are tailored to content, context, and connectivity. The selected candidate will design, train, simulate, and provide proof of concept for novel ML systems that InterDigital is creating to drive 6G research, including: Development of cutting-edge wireless technologies to enable 6G cellular systems; detailed system studies harmonized with 3GPP air-interface development, waveform, modulation and protocol design to support beyond 5G and 6G networks; system architecture development, system design and analysis, simulation support, generation of technical reports, publications etc.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Carry out cutting-edge research in AI/ML for air-interface design for next generation mobile communications systems.
- Conduct performance analysis and feasibility studies using simulations and analytical modeling.
- Apply AI and machine learning for developing optimized solutions and systems, demonstrating improved performance.
- Develop ML models for wireless systems using Sionna environments, evaluating performance of proposed solutions.
- Publish research work in the form of patents and conference/journal publications.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and/or technical papers surveying state of the art, describing design and development efforts, and presenting evaluation results.
- Work with other team members and publish their findings in leading scientific conferences and journals.
- Assist the team in technology development efforts as needed.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Master or Ph.D. degree program in Electrical Engineering or related field (Ph.D. preferred)
- Solid background in wireless communication areas such as modulation, channel coding, waveform, digital signal processing, MIMIO, wireless communication systems design.
- Excellent working knowledge using Python and Python based ML modules such as Keras, Tensor flow. Experience using Sionna platform is a plus.
- Experience implementing machine learning algorithms for solving challenging problems preferably in wireless communication system design.
- Hands-on experiencing integrating Python ML modules with wireless system simulators
- Research experience with a track record of peer-reviewed publications is highly preferred
- Familiarity with cellular systems standards (3GPP 4G LTE and 5G) is preferred
- Ability to work in an innovative, dynamic, and research-oriented work environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills
