Oceans AI Training Lead

The Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System ( CIOOS ) is undertaking a project approach to accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the ocean sector, with a focus on connecting organizations in the ocean sector with the tools and information necessary to understand and implement the opportunities offered by AI. As a nationally coordinated effort towards an open access and online platform for sharing high quality data and information about the state of our oceans, CIOOS provides a solid foundation on which to advance the objectives of this project. Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director of CIOOS Atlantic, the Oceans AI Training Lead will be responsible for the development and delivery of training programs that improve understanding of AI within the ocean sector, including considerations for implementing AI, and the opportunities AI provides to solve ocean problems. This training will include self-directed online courses and interactive workshops. The Oceans AI Training Lead will assess and implement such artificial intelligence training programs, with a particular focus on training development for the not-for-profit sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the AI training requirements of organizations across Canada (not-for-profit focus).
  • Identify key stakeholders and build connections to develop ocean data training programs.
  • Leverage modern e-learning technology to develop online training materials.
  • Translate online materials for in-person or interactive virtual delivery.
  • Deliver training materials to stakeholders, evaluate effectiveness, and iterate as needed.
  • Additional training or engagement-related responsibilities that may arise as the project progresses.

Note:

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Evening and weekend work may be required on an occasional basis to meet operational requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Ability to translate user needs into an effective solution.
  • Experience developing and delivering learning solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized, with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to be a team player and to adapt to changing situations and requirements.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Assets:

  • Knowledge and experience utilizing digital platforms and Camtasia software.
  • Experience with the ocean sector in Canada.
  • Understanding of artificial intelligence.
