Senior Software Engineer (AI)

As the savings gap in the country widens, it’s imperative that every worker has access to and participates in their company’s savings program, such as a 401(k) or 403(b). Unfortunately, prior to Vestwell, small businesses have been neglected and underserved, with expensive, inflexible, poorly designed offerings built on old, mainframe software. Vestwell is changing that, starting with rebuilding the core infrastructure for the modern era.
Vestwell’s north star is to be the engine behind a $30T industry, powering all payroll-deducted workplace savings programs for small-to-midsize businesses, such as 401(k), 403(b), IRA, emergency savings accounts (ESA), health savings accounts (HSA), 529 college savings, and alike.
Vestwell’s focus is to build the most flexible, powerful workplace savings and investment platform, delivered through the hands and minds of their financial services partners with the help of payroll provider partners. The team at Vestwell makes the hard stuff look easy, by combining the expertise of financial advice with the sophistication of a technology provider.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
The Engineering team is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our AI Solutions team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in developing robust AI-driven applications, contributing to both our product offerings and internal process enhancements. This role demands a blend of technical prowess, innovative thinking, and a commitment to quality.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
- Design, develop, and maintain AI solutions, focusing on high-quality, scalable, and reliable production-level code.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to integrate AI features into products and internal tools.
- Prototype and iterate on solutions rapidly in Python, with a strong grasp of machine learning principles.
- Utilize machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn and PyTorch to implement and optimize algorithms.
- Leverage APIs from leading LLM providers and other tools like LangChain to implement RAG and agentic workflows across the enterprise
- Develop front-end prototypes and tools using JavaScript to showcase and interact with AI functionalities.
- Analyze data to extract insights, inform decision-making, and measure the impact of AI solutions.
Requirements:
The Necessities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in ML/AI software development, with a proven track record of delivering production-level code.
- Experience delivering Python applications to production.
- Familiarity with basic machine learning concepts and experience in applying them using frameworks like Scikit-learn and PyTorch.
- Ability to prototype front-end tools using JavaScript/HTML
- Experience with Docker, AWS, and other cloud services for deploying and scaling applications.
- Knowledge of testing frameworks and commitment to developing reliable, well-tested code.
- Experience with RDBMS (Postgres preferred)
- Strong knowledge of AI algorithms, techniques, and technologies.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in an Agile environment working with tools such as GitHub, Jira, and Jenkins.

OUR CULTURE:
We take a modern Agile approach to development, trusting cross-functional squads to make bottom up decisions in terms of roadmap prioritization, technical choices, and day-to-day processes. We want squads to be first class citizens, working as a team to define their roadmap and prioritization, that follows best practices in development, automation testing, deploying, and support.
The expected salary range for this position is $160K – $180K with a bonus variable. Please note that salary bands are based on NY and other similar metro areas and may differ based on where the role is ultimately hired.

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 – 2 conversations about Vestwell, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but the usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an Engineer, a portfolio review for a Designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in-person interview panel after that if the screens go well. Before making an offer, our interview process concludes with a references check stage for your recruiter to meet with a current or former supervisor and peer. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
