AI and Data Governance Analyst

General Description:

The AI and Data Governance Analyst is responsible for supporting the governance, quality control, and documentation relating to the Firm’s data platforms, applied data sciences and AI solutions, and related processes.

The Analyst works with technology, knowledge, business services, and practice teams to discover and document the firm’s key operational data, assess intelligence and analytics needs, and support the Data Solutions Engineering and Applied AI teams in the implementation of products and projects driving our data platform.

This role contributes to digital transformation programs, provides technical and business process support, and serves as a supporting analyst on data management and governance projects firmwide.

Key Responsibilities And Essential Job Functions:

  • Support to the firm’s data platform projects, including direct support to the Data Solutions Engineering team in the capture and documentation of firm requirements, data quality priorities, and coordination on governance efforts for the firm.
  • Close coordination with firm information governance, privacy and compliance, and information security roles and procedures. Close partnership with the data solutions team on the application of industry standards to our data taxonomies.
  • Key development work on the firm’s master data models, data catalogs, data schema and data flows and related artifacts to help facilitate the firm’s implementation of data platforms and data automation and sciences projects.
  • Foster a culture of excellence in data transformations and clear schema design, ensuring alignment with operational and analytical business requirements.
  • Advocacy and clear communication of the value and opportunities of the firm’s data estate.
  • Special project and duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Intermediate skills in data analysis – developing macros, scripts, queries.
  • Excellent experience in people management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, teamwork, customer service and critical thinking skills required.

Required Qualifications & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or professional services environment, particularly within a data governance or KM function.
  • Understanding of law firm structure and business practices, as well as practice-specific terminology. Experience working with a broad array of legal practices including transactional, litigation, and regulatory.
  • Experience in the data field with a high degree of data literacy and the people, processes, technology, and procedures associated with effective data governance strategies and metadata management and analyses.
  • Experience supporting an enterprise metadata management program delivering enterprise metadata or content management solutions.
  • Experience with data architecture, quality, management, security, compliance, or software tools used to develop and implement data governance policy and procedures.
  • Experience in collaborating with stakeholders to evaluate existing data dictionaries, business glossaries, and taxonomies to determine the existence of metadata gaps, alignment with controlled vocabularies, and potential contribution to increase usability, reliability, and search and discoverability of data assets.
  • Understanding of data governance strategy planning and implementation, and providing guidance in setting the relevant workflows, roles, views, audit reports, and other execution and monitoring concepts to support data governance initiatives.
  • Understanding of business intelligence, data warehousing, application development, and data visualization. Understanding of legal technology, workflow systems, legal project management, and practice management tools.
  • Understanding of cloud data platforms and related concepts and applications, applied data sciences, and both traditional and generative AI.
  • Understanding of database systems, data warehousing concepts and data modeling techniques. Experience with data management, process, and data system design in a legal or professional services firm.
  • Familiarity with data quality issues and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
  • Proficiency working with MS Office and Power platform especially for analyzing and communicating data-related concepts.
  • Proficiency with cybersecurity best practices and compliance requirements in the legal industry and for clients such as financial and governmental institutions
  • Ability to develop effective and collaborative relationships among business teams, lawyers, firm administrative departments, and vendors.
  • Champion for change management, process improvement, user adoption, and the constant evolution of complex data strategies and needs. Initiative and creativity to develop unique and innovative approaches to address existing challenges and/or positively affect lawyer productivity, client service, and overall fiscal health of the firm.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex assignments with competing deadlines and priorities. Experience managing projects from inception through planning, execution, and delivery phases.

Preferred Qualifications & Education:

  • Master’s or related coursework strongly preferred.

This position may be filled in the District of Columbia or New York. In accordance with the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Law, New York State Pay Transparency Law, and New York City Human Rights Law, the pay range for this position in the District of Columbia is $95,800 – $143,600/yr, New York State is $83,300 – $149,900/yr, and in New York City is $99,900 – $149,900/yr. These ranges are specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations. An individual’s actual compensation will depend on the individual’s qualifications and experience.
