About the role?
The ‘Enterprise AI Governance Manager’ is a critical role to drive forward AstraZeneca’s impactful work to ensure that AI is developed, deployed and used in a safe, responsible and ethical way. This is a unique opportunity to lead work on innovative, high-profile and sensitive issues, which make a meaningful difference to our business and patients.
You will become a key part of the Enterprise AI Governance function, which is part of AstraZeneca’s Enterprise Data Office (EDO). The team develops and implements AstraZeneca’s global AI governance and risk management framework. Our goal is for AstraZeneca to continue maximising the benefits and transformative potential of AI and machine learning technologies, whilst maintaining its license to operate, aligning with global AI regulations, and protecting its patients, employees and business.
The key responsibilities of the role include developing and implementing AI governance policies, standards and processes, which are based on global AI laws and regulations. Alongside this, you will lead work to ensure that AI activity across AstraZeneca is tracked and catalogued, which includes reporting on AI governance, risk and compliance metrics.
You will also champion the importance of AI ethics and responsible AI across AstraZeneca and beyond, by driving forward impactful training, education and communications campaigns and initiatives, and forging partnerships with policymakers, regulators and industry partners.
This is a highly visible role with ample opportunities to develop a global network and influential voice, both internally and externally. You will work closely with technical colleagues from across the AI and Data Science ecosystem, as well as colleagues in functions including Privacy, Cyber Security and Legal and Compliance.
Key Accountabilities:
Responsibilities will be expected to evolve over time as our approach to AI Governance matures and develops. They will include but will not be restricted to leading and carrying out:
- Develop and update AI governance policies, standards, guidelines and processes.
- Track and monitor global AI regulatory developments.
- Lead work to update and maintain AstraZeneca’s Enterprise AI Catalogue.
- Produce reports and data visualisations on AI governance, risk and compliance metrics.
- Developing and maintaining metrics and dashboards which highlight AI activity and AI risk.
- Deliver workshops, presentations and educational sessions on AI governance and risk management.
- Develop training and educational materials on AI governance and responsible AI.
- Forge partnerships and alliances with AI, data and governance stakeholders across AstraZeneca.
- Undertake AI governance assurance and risk assessment reviews of AI projects and use cases.
- Identify and implement innovative ways to modernise and streamline AI governance processes, with new tools and technology.
Experience And Knowledge:
- A solid understanding of Data and AI risk, regulations and governance
- Demonstrable knowledge of and direct experience working on AI is preferred.
- A graduate or professional qualification in a relevant field (e.g., data privacy, AI and machine learning, digital policy and regulation etc.) or extensive experience working within data and AI risk.
- Experience in leading and driving forward complex change management programmes.
- Sound judgement, with ability to make complex decisions and provide guidance and feedback on sensitive issues.
- An understanding of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks applying to AI (e.g. EU AI Act)
- Superb communication and social skills – able to collaborate closely with employees at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient in Excel.
- Excellent PowerPoint and data visualisation skills, with the ability to produce visually engaging and impactful communication materials.
- Demonstrable ability to communicate and explain complex issues to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to work under stress and manage conflicting priorities.
