Head of Data & AI Governance

What you’ll deliver with us:

The Head of Data and AI Governance is a strategic leadership, responsible for implementing and owning an enterprise-wide data and AI governance framework. This framework is vital to ensuring ethical, compliant, and effective utilisation of data and AI technology to drive business value. You will lead operation teams responsible for different components of the framework, from data quality to knowledge management and AI assurance. Reporting directly into the General Manager of Data & AI Services you’ll work closely with our Chief Risk Officer, Chief Information Security Officer and other senior leaders on policy and strategy development.

You’ll also:

  • Lead the implementation of a world-class data and AI governance framework, incorporating global best practice to govern the ethical, legal, and effective use of data and AI.
  • Oversee the implementation of a robust data stewardship and quality program, ensuring the organisation’s data remains accurate, timely, accessible, and secure.
  • Direct the continuous refinement of the organisation’s data governance framework to ensure alignment with strategic goals, focusing on critical areas such as data quality, privacy, security, and AI ethics.
  • Manage the integration of policy into AI projects and data management practices, working closely with relevant reams to ensure adoption and compliance.
  • Conduct high-level Data and AI Governance Forums and Working Groups enabling cross-functional leadership to align on governance objectives and policies.
  • Keep abreast of technological advancements and ethical AI considerations, adapting governance framework to meet evolving standards.
  • Provide regular briefings to senior management and the board on our progress integrating data and AI governance across Australia Post.

About you:

You are a strong leader that exemplifies Australia Post’s core values of Trust, Inclusivity, Empowerment and Safety. This includes ensuring your team has the skills and experience to execute their jobs effectively. You will have organisational recruitment and performance management experience. Leaning on your outstanding communication skills you will champion a culture of ethical AI use and data literacy, developing comprehensive training programs to improve organisation-wide understanding.

You’ll also need

  • Extensive experience in a senior data governance role, with demonstrated expertise in managing initiatives related to data quality, AI ethics, and compliance with global data protection regulations.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex governance concepts to senior management and a diverse stakeholder audience.
  • Strong understanding of international data protection laws (e.g. GDPR) and experience leading compliance-related initiatives.
  • Continuously developing understanding of the ethical issues surrounding data analytics, AI, and automated decision-making.
  • Proven background in crafting and executing data and AI-related educational initiatives.
  • Understanding of the unique position of Australia Post within our industry and the modernisation we are undergoing.
